Preliminary Task

For our preliminary task, as a group we were asked to create a short, one to two minute opening sequence of a thriller film. It was essential that we included three key types of shots within the piece in order to prove our filming abilities. These three shots were: • 180 Degree rule- this is an imaginary line called the axis which connects characters by keeping the camera on one side of the line for every shot in the scene. • Match on action- this is a tricky but effective shot. For example, in our piece we used it to show someone walking through a door and sitting down. • Shot reverse shot- this is when one character is filmed looking at another character and then the other character is shown looking back at character one. Everything went rather well, but took a while to edit due to a lot of unneeded film that was recorded. This caused it to take longer and was the only problem we experienced. Other than that the filming was rather easy and everyone participated and included ideas on how the shot should be done. There was great teamwork and it went really well overall.
