Neyo - So Sick
The Music video 'So Sick' by Neyo is very clear and understandable which applies to Goodwins thoery. This song's genre is RnB and i chose this to give it a change from the indie music videos that have been analysed in the group so far.
The song is set in real life and it is a completely realistic setting unlike some music videos that are created these days to look like a fary tale scene. The song is about the singer falling in love and his girlfriend has broken up with him and he is singing about not wanting to remember her in his life. The video is set in a the winter time so there is snow everywhere, but it doesnt look like that has anything to do with the actual story. The story of the video shows the memories that Neyo had with his girlfriend and how he doesnt want to remember it anymore and he just wants to move on. As you can probably tell this is a low mood type of RnB song and it sets a sad sort of mood from listening to it and watching the video.
Looking at Goodwins Theory i can see clearly how it links and how neyo made a good music video from following the rules. There is a clear link to the genre characteristic, as in RnB videos they are usually about love stories and they show this in the story. This video shows neyo dancing and looking upset about the girl (she is also in the video, which is another link to the genre characteristic.) There is an obvious relationship between the lyrics and the visuals of the music video itself and as in the video you see them fighting which shows that they didnt get on and why they split up. Alsio when he is upset and says the lyrics 'So sick of love songs' he puts his head in his hands. The song is quite low beat and in a way relaxing which is what the visuals portray, it isnt a song where there is alor of raving and lots going on, it is slow and relaxing. There are lots of close ups which will mean that they are going to be used for the demands of the record label. Lastly, there is slightly voyeuristic scenes in the video as the girl is used to attract the attention of men.
